Ditto, that is completely bullcrap. All you need is a scratch from the really infectious ones like rats or wolves, canon says so, whereas you generally have to get mauled to the point of near-death from the feline types, if I remember right. So I could see kids generally not living through maulings like that (though I say some still would) but what about just getting away with getting nicked? Hell, there are loads of situations like that where the kid wouldn't even need to be attacked--for instance, a kid sees a big puppy and goes to try to play with it, the werewolf wants the child to GTFO so it doesn't lose control and eat 'em, so it just tries to make a menacing gesture to scare the kid off, like swiping a paw at them or snapping their jaws, and accidentally nicks the kid. Or a child is dying from a disease, car crash injuries, etc., and the desperate parents pay a therian to deliberately infect their child so that their new supernatural healing abilities will save their life. Yeah, an "I don't know" would have been a hell of a better answer.

LKH never looked at my room mate once; LKH always looked at me. Guess what? Room mate was a blonde female whereas I was a petite, female bodied brunette.

Ahahahah oh WOW.
