Yes, Joseph. I sort of kept up with the series via sporkings in lashouts, and that stuck with me as being one of the most evil things I'd seen Anita do. Granted, she'd done A LOT of other horrible shit, but I think that's what made her cross the Moral Event Horizon for me, that she would withdraw her protection from someone because he had the sheer fucking gall to say no to her because he loved his wife, and believed in that little thing called fidelity. I remember my jaw hanging open as I read that.

Yeah, I don't really read porn either.

Also, while the AB series might be "erotica" now, we all know it damn sure didn't start that way. Now, if it had been a straight up porn fest from the beginning? I wouldn't have read past the first book. I can almost guarantee that Gary had a hand in helping with the first several books. I'm sure he told Laurell "no" to some of her more terrible ideas.

The thing is, with us creative writers, we ALL get the idea from time to time that's terrible or just won't work. Normal people discard them. Not LKH. Every idea, no matter how ludicrous it is, is clearly awesome enough to put in a book. I shudder to think what the early books COULD have been without Gary's intervention.

I really feel terrible for her boyfriends who are allowed to only fuck her and not each other or no one else. I mean, what if they want a monogamous relationship with a woman that's not Anita? Could she not be satisfied with only five or six lovers to feed her ardeur? Also, why the fuck hasn't she learned to control it after ten plus books of having it?! It'd be nice if she learned to feed it from a distance rather than behaving like a cat in heat every time it flairs up.

Now I'm halfway mulling over a fic idea where a female assassin takes out Anita and frees all the shifters and vampires from her evil thrall.

Also, it majorly squicks me out that Laurell seems to LOVE the "Rape is Okay When It's Female On Male" trope.

No LKH, no. It...really, really fucking isn't. It's a strange sort of nightmare fuel that these books have basically become windows into her warped, twisted psyche.

While LKH might try to paint Anita as a hero, her actions are not in any way, shape, or form what one would call heroic. Not even close. I mean, she's raped and enslaved people. She's abandoned them to die. (What she did to Joseph was unforgivable and cruel.) She won't let them have any independence or personality or control over their lives.

Also, since Anita's done things like sexually assault Asher while Jean-Claude sat and looked on and psychically lobotomized Nicky and permanently bound him to her for no good reason. I have to wonder who would find that sexy?

...On second thought, I don't think I want to know.
