a_sporking_rat: rat (blue mouse)
Just an update on the rodents with accompanying pictures! Sam is in fact still alive but I do expect to lose her soon. Miss Blatz is unhappy due to Sam's condition, and has lost so much weight she is in fact now only AVERAGE rat size. I don't want to take pictures of Sam the way she is now, but here's Miss Blatz

And here, while she was still quite pudgy, is Miss Blatz in her vest!

She's very docile and doesn't mind being held on her back like this

He's kind of a drama queen and will squeak and struggle when I pick him up even though he's actually just fine with being held. He's very cage-dominant so he can't live with a roomie, but I let him have play-dates with Miss Blatz like Sid and Ratsputin used to. He got mites for awhile and couldn't see her though, and when his mite treatment was over and he got to see her again, he put a little arm over her shoulders. NO, REALLY, THAT HAPPENED!

Boz, looking as pleasant as ever

This is Stefan the mouse, another shelter rodent. I don't think he was ever handled much, as he doesn't seem to like it or trust me much. When I first cleaned his cage, he got away from me. I thought, no big deal, I'll just put his cage out with the door open and he'll come back for the food and water. I was right, and in a couple of days he was caught. So when it happened again the next time I cleaned his cage, I thought it would be the same. I was wrong. He stayed loose for a month. He still came for food and water at night, but left after eating and drinking and holed up somewhere in the basement. I know this because I saw him in the cage one night but he was out again and off before I could shut the door. He also evaded all the live traps, despite them being temptingly baited with peanut butter crackers. Finally, a few hours after July 4th had ended, I went downstairs to give the rats a very late goodnight, and caught him crawling around on the armchair we have down there (he must have been watching TV!) If he hadn't been there, I'd never have gotten him; he cornered himself, wedging down between the cushion and the back of the chair, and I reached down and grabbed him. He was PISSED. He peed me, he bit me, he struggled, but I held on and back in the cage he went. He was sore at me for a week after and wouldn't let me touch him, but he's been slowly forgiving me, I think. He even let me hold him today, probably because I gave him chicken last night! Anyway, here he is, the little rascal!
