Pretty sure the only reason why I remember it is because I read half the book twice -- my original copy of the book was missing a whole segment of pages (like 30+ pages) and I went out and got a softcover to read while waiting for the publisher to send a replacement. I was still in the "no, NiC was totally a fluke and it's bound to get better?!" stage of denial. And then ID happened which destroyed all my faith in this series and LKH as a writer. (That said, I found ID weirdly enjoyable just for how incredibly bad it is? Once you get past the first couple of chapters, it's just a rolling mess of WTFery.)
