I used to be a member of the AB fandom years ago, and I gave up around Cerulean Sins. I say gave up because that was the last book I finished. I burned my copy of Incubus Dreams. To this day, it's the only book I've ever thrown into a fire place.
I've recently decided to poke my nose around out of morbid curiosity. Reading the snarking of these later books has me cringing, laughing and yet...a little sad. The things she's done to the characters, and Anita's now up to...how many lovers? Over twenty? Dear Christ.
I'm grateful that Asher left the series in Bullet, because it's like he said "fuck this noise, I can do better." And left.
....I'm now seriously contemplating fic where Asher gets to have his own adventures and finds love with a gorgeous concert violinist. Or something. Or he and Jean-Claude manage to rid themselves of Anita and go on awesome adventures. Like, they fight crime together. Okay, so I'm being entirely facetious, but the idea of crime fighting vampires is both awesome and hilarious. :P
I truly do not recognize the gross monstrosity this series has become. It's just...beyond sad. To think, I used to write fic for this, and shipped JC/Anita, before she started humping everything supernatural in sight. Ahhh, those were the good old days. Forgive me, I'm feeling a tad wistful.
