Also, I had a thought. Nathaniel's skin naturally smelling like vanilla makes no sense...but it would make sense if he was a female wererat! A lot of female rats, believe it or not, often have a naturally sweet, very clean scent. One of my girls, Miss Blatz, does. She has a floral scent in my opinion, while my dad thinks she smells like new sneakers and my mom thinks she smells like powder.
As for what boy rats smell like...I've heard their natural scent described as corn chips, fresh tortilla, or even grape soda. I don't think it quite matches any of those, but it's definitely a distinct smell. Not bad, though. And not overt, you can't smell the odor of either sex unless you push your nose into their fur. LEST WE FORGET, HE'S GOT BLUE EYES. Goddamn, woman, calling them "blue" is enough. "Dark blue" or "midnight-blue" alone is the limit in my opinion. Or if you really want the darkness emphasized "eyes so dark blue that they were almost black" if you must but I feel like that's a one-time thing and all other times eye color must be restrained to just two words. YOU JUST USED OVER FORTY.
And the relevance? None. JC is whispering in her mind that "You can be right, or you can be happy." Well, that sounds like incredibly manipulative phrasing, but this is Jean-Claude so it should be. He says if Anita says she doesn't want Richard, JC will put a stop to this and find another way to "seal our triumvirate". That just makes me wish Anita would call it off so we can see a solution that doesn't involve sex, and maybe get a look at how triumvirates that AREN'T lovers do it (like Padma's triumvirate, which, I sneaked a peek ahead, will be appearing in this novel!) Also, this is just my headcanon talking, but I don't see how their triumvirate can truly be sealed if ANITA STILL HASN'T GOT THE FOURTH MARK AND THUS IS NOT YET A FULL HUMAN SERVANT.

JC mentally asks if she wants him to stop and "the answer was yes, and no" and she tells us about how that made up her relationship with Richard from the beginning. "Yes, and no; no and yes". Well, if you aren't 100% yes, then you should probably quit, yeah.

Meaning the one most likely to say no and call it off? Wow, now I have creepy rape-vibes from this whole thing and not just Richard. Especially with JC's manipulative little line I just mentioned. She wonders if they set this up, but JC whispers that he didn't know Richard would come tonight but that he does want this and assures her that "It is sex tonight, not a change in our living arrangements.
