I can't believe I forgot that Rafael was the only who ever did nice things on screen without being under duress. He's the only one of them who has ever acted like a leader at all.
I thought the handling of how Eva gets treated was perfectly fine. Enough was mentioned that the reader knows how those who are transgender are treated, we know that most of the New York supernaturals that we've seen thus far don't think it's a big deal, it is acknowledged by Rafael that in some circles that bias against transgendered folks is an issue (like with Richard), and that Rafael won't put up with such bias in his Rodere. World building, potential subplot in action and character developments all in one go. I like it. :)
