Anita tells him about the assassination attempt on Richard
The hit is only on her, JC, and Richard. The hit men only harmed their target despite the fact that Richard has lots of neighbors. So the contracted killers aren't a danger to the were-tigers. Also, why is Anita flaunting her knowledge of how to kill werewolves in this convo? Jake knows this stuff! And, as you say, Jake has no reason to be invested in Anita' personal life. But nooooo, it's just that Jake's tired instead of completely disinterested.

Jake: "I do think they're safer here with you, but ask me why I think they're safer."
I HATE HATE HATE THE CONVERSATIONAL CIRCLES IN LKH'S WRITING. THEY'RE NEITHER WITTY, CLEVER, OR AMUSING. THEY'RE JUST TEDIOUS.

Jake:"Direct. I like that after dealing with all the old vampires."
*dies laughing*
Anita makes the vampires look competent and direct despite their weird obsession with fetish wear and parties. I agree that this bit was written to shoehorn in another compliment to Anita -- and to tell us that she's SUPER DIRECT AND TAKE CHARGE, DAMMIT. Because given the "plot" up to now, we might have our doubts.

He tells her that these tigers are purebloods.
The emphasis on pureblooded-ness in this series is really, really gross. It's not cool in HP but at least that author realizes that it's not a plus.

Is it ever even explained how the Harlequin would know?
Nope, especially since I think it's mentioned on Lashout that the Harlequin that come to St. Louis are either rogues or imposters or something. Anyway, they're not the real deal. (And then there's this gross thing where Anita blood-bonds Malcolm's entire church and has a disgusting & sacrilegious "I am a god of love, worship me" thing. I always wondered if that meant that Anita was in charge of Church of Eternal Life vamps all across the country or just the ones in St. Louis.)

most everyone at the Circus seems to have forgotten that as if they were "ordinary humans" that he "mind-fucked" into forgetting. Wait, can therians even do that?
In this series, it IS vampire only territory. And it's a retcon. (And it's a plot hole since the vamps who came were fake Harlequin who came to steal JC's territory.)

"I am here as an agent of some of the Harlequin, but I am not sanctioned by the Council to be in St. Louis."
Why is he telling Anita everything that he knows about the Council? It'd be more interesting if he kept his mouth shut or lied and Anita had to figure it out on her own. Escept she's an idiot... So JC'd have to figure it out and spoon feed it to her.

Jake gushes about how anyone else would be astonished and asking questions galore about the idea that the Harlequin have broken ties the Council
This is another sideways compliment to Anita. She soooo cool and level-headed that she doesn't freak out when nasty, ordinary people would have done so.

she says just to tell him what he knows and she'll tell him what she knows.
This whole conversation is such a ginormous waste of time, especially the crappy, unintelligible recaps of the crappy, unintelligible "plot".

"They would come to sit in their great chairs, but the deep dark secret was, once they took their places on the council the Mother possessed them"
I took this to mean that vamp society fostered this whole perception that getting to the level of council member was the brass ring that everyone aspired to but, in reality, it was the promotion of the damned. When you made the rank of council member, the MOAD snatched away your free will and ruled all of your minions via your puppet-self. You basically hit your people's jackpot, got consumed, and got to watch the MOAD prance around and do stuff with your body. That way, everyone would think that she's asleep and merely terrifying as opposed to terrifying and a primordial evil that should be destroyed. Under this theory, the Traveler (and his line?) are apparently the descendents that inherited the Possession ability from MOAD.
