That was probably the kindest thing that could be done for Richard in the confines of this story. Interesting that Damien hasn't fallen yet, but he's probably going to drop when Nathaniel does, a sacrifice to the cause.
Anita becomes the easiest dupe in the universe when JC isn't around to direct her and I really wish that was a deliberate dynamic in the books.
