I don't understand how a professional author with many books under her belt could think writing a book in which virtually nothing and no one matters is a good idea. Even if Rice SOMEHOW ties all the plot threads and characters together in the last part of the book (yeah right), it'll be far too late. She had ideas that could have led to multiple books here, so long as she allowed something to happen in them, but they're all just sitting there rotting.
