Adventures in AB Roleplay: The Infamous That Guy Saga

I've mentioned that up until recently I used to roleplay online in the Anitaverse, and had some tales of fail from it. I thought I would share a few with you, specifically the ones that make up what is now known as The That Guy Saga.

For those wondering how it all eventually turned out, I left the board because of other drama. On the way out though, I told the admin he was pals with that she should have banned his ass long ago. She told me that he had been her pal since middle school and that she valued their friendship over some silly game.

I feel for her on that. I certainly value my friendships over roleplay games too. Sure, an admin shouldn’t let in someone like that just because they’re their friend, but maybe she had no idea he was going to be such an ass. However, if she thinks their friendship would really be at risk if she banned him, I have to wonder if *he* also valued their relationship over a silly game or not.

Last I heard, the place got taken down anyway because a minor was cybering there.

There's actually even more lulzfail to That Guy's antics involving another character of his, but that's all I ever posted there about him.

Yeah, I found that out from Seven. I kind of wonder if it had to do with that "my tiger *has* to be an alpha and also she is a doctor in her early twenties and knows loads of martial arts" girl, because apparently she was underage and had a history of trying to get cybering on various AB boards and those boards getting shut down as a result.

Ah yes. That Guy. I recognise the sort from my own days of freeform roleplaying. ^_^;

Actually, the existence That Guy and his fellow Those Guys notwithstanding, your descriptions of all the goings-on in that forum makes me actually want to play in one, even though I was never able to figure out the community version of forum roleplay. You really seemed to have a whole world running there. It sounds like it was really cool.

Awww, thank you! There were a lot of bumps, ngl, but many of us really put our heart into trying to make it both awesome in terms of play and realistic in terms of world-building. I have to give LKH her due, she did give us a really good framework to play within and expand upon. Plus great characters and plot can make up for a lot of the holes in her universe, in my opinion. It was very much fun while it lasted, and I met some great people that I'm still friends with!

In case you're curious...that site does still technically exist, but its moved over to jcink due to the whole being canned thing. Sadly the management of the place has got even worse (as an example, I got banned for 'not being a dedicated enough member' while attempting to juggle a boatload of coursework, exam revision, and a full time job, even though I was maintaining my required post count) and they've implemented some ridiculous rules that drove half their players away.

Things are all good now :D . I was thinking of leaving there anyway due to some of the rules they'd made up (creating several new species and having the rule that required potential leaders to network with the leaders of EVERY OTHER SPECIES) so it just made my decision for me, even if I was pissed at the reason they gave.

Part of me thinks that its possible one of the mods just wanted my character's job as Master of the City and this was the simplest way to get it.

None of us starts out as a particularly good RPer--point is that you learned, and your friends weren't enablers.

Yeah, go for it! Maybe have two versions, one for the Anitaverse and one original? A lot of my characters have various versions to stick in various universes apart from my own original storyverse. And yes, the ABverse is GREAT for playing once you take out the canons!

My RP days were started off with just a friend and I. I never really branched out into multiple-person RPGs until I got older (like recently, hello D&D and WoD). I like to think I'm not about to make anyone a Mary Sue/Gary Stu. Although sometimes strange markings and/or names are just so much fun ;.; (sorry Bloodfrost/Wynter, but your deep red hair and light blue eyes were just way too much fun for me, you silly little werewolf.)

That said, I almost want to read the reports of Lord Speshul, too... Because dear me, that was entertaining. Although I can almost imagine how infuriating it would be to have to deal with him personally as a player. I'd probably just start responding to his PMs with headbashes of "ALKD;KLAGJAADFSKJLDFKLJGJEJOerhiojdj" as replies.

Honestly, what makes a Sue, in my experience, is less the traits themselves and more of how they're handled.

While I never RPed AB I did role play elsewhere, notably a lot on Avidgamers for anyone who remembers that old chestnut (sad what happened with it, then Acornrack, then SpleafNet, what a nightmare), but I'm glad to say as much as I considered him a friend I threatened him with deletion if he didn't toe the line for bullying other people which went out of control in an OOC sense. It was a Dragonrider's of Pern RP. This was after we'd considerately not killed his character after a really long period of inactivity but contrived a reason to send him elsewhere that brought tension IC with his return which could have been good, but he didn't take it well. He did apologize after it was said and done but then he went inactive afterwards so... that was that either way. Besides one other RPer that was just notorious among the Pern RPers (initials KHB for anyone who might recall) for being terrible that was the worst experience I've had fortunately.

I can't imagine being friends with the Douchelord in real life. He sounds ridiculously self-centered. It's too bad the admin wasn't interested in giving you guys a good and fair game. <3

Man, you make me miss RPing. Got two characters I love playing. The one is a Roman vampire who is narcissistic and has a strong liking for feeding off other vampires. I also have a Lucifer character whose twin brother, Samael, resides in his head due to trying to hitch a ride back to heaven and ended up getting stuck.
